CHARLIE ADAM is set to end his association with Rangers and make a permanent move to Blackpool after a bid of £500,000 was accepted today.

Adam spent a highly successful loan spell with the Championship side in the second half of last season and made a big impact on the fans.

Now new manager Ian Holloway wants to make Adam a permanent fixture and subject to personal terms being agreed the left sided midfielder will sign a deal with Blackpool tomorrow.

Adam scored twice in 13 games last season but it was his influence on the field which convinced Blackpool to splash the cash.

Adam had three years left on his Rangers contract but had found himself on the fringes under Walter Smith. Ironically, his last match for Rangers was the Old Firm derby in December last year.

Charlie came right through the ranks at Rangers and on his day was a very effective player, especially from set pieces.

He made his debut in a 3-2 win over Dunfermline at the end of the 2003/04 season but went on loan to Ross County the following season and then spent a season at St Mirren, helping the Buddies win promotion to the SPL.

It was Paul Le Guen who gave Adam the big breakthrough in 2006/07 and it was his most productive season as he scored 14 goals, including a cheeky daisy-cutter free kick which fooled Artur Boruc and gave Rangers a 2-0 Old Firm win.

And few will forget his stunning goal against Stuttgart in the Champions League at Ibrox in 2007/08.

At the age of 23 he has a very bright future ahead of him in English football.

Following various media reports suggesting the Seasiders were set to complete the signing of Charlie Adam from Scottish giants Rangers, Pool boss Ian Holloway confirmed the Seasiders have had a bid accepted by the Ibrox club but the club have yet to discuss personal terms with the player, "I have just got off the phone to Charlie's agent," Holloway told http://www.blackpoolfc.co.uk,

"Charlie is supposed be reporting back for pre-season training tomorrow (Wednesday)at Rangers and his agent has told us that although Rangers have accepted our offer he is a bit confused about things because he thought he might have had a chance at Rangers, the lad has heard lots of speculation about Barry Ferguson moving from the club and he fancies the chance of still playing for them because he is a Rangers fan, so he is going to see Walter Smith tomorrow (Wednesday) and hopefully he will be coming to see us on Thursday."

Charlie Adam habe ich erst einmal wieder zurück in den Kader verfrachtet. Rangers und Blackpool sind sich zwar einig, Preston will ihn auch, aber Adam will scheinbar in Glasgow bleiben und sich durchsetzen.

Smith leaves Gers for Saints

Goalkeeper Graeme Smith has left Rangers for St Johnstone in a bid to play first-team football.

The 26-year-old has joined the SPL new boys after finding himself only the third-choice keeper at Ibrox, behind both Neil Alexander and Allan McGregor in boss Walter Smith's plans.

He was recruited by Rangers on a free transfer from Kilmarnock in June 2007 but made just one competitive appearance for the club when he featured in the 6-0 Scottish Cup demolition of East Stirling in January 2008.

UNITED SIGN ANDY WEBSTER ON LOAN DEAL

Dundee United today completed a year long loan deal with Rangers for Scotland international central defender Andy Webster.

Andy Webster almost joined Dundee United from Arbroath in 2001, but instead elected to go to Hearts, at that time managed by Craig Levein. A highly successful period at Tynecastle saw him capped 22 times by Scotland before moving to Wigan Athletic in the English Premiership in 2006. A permanent transfer to Rangers in 2008 followed an initial loan period, but the player's first team appearances have since been restricted due to injury. In May of this year, the 27 year old player returned to the international scene playing and scoring for Scotland B against Northern Ireland B.

Manager Craig Levein said, "Andy Webster is a player I know very well, having signed him for Hearts back in 2001. He is a player I know can play at the highest level and I wasn't surprised to see him return to the international scene at the end of last season. He now needs regular first team football to build on this and this loan arrangement will benefit him and, of course, Dundee United.

"For our part, he will further strengthen a very important area of the team and add to the options I have defensively. For his part, it gives him an opportunity to gain regular first team football and get his career back on track after overcoming his injury problems."

Fergie Completes Deal

BARRY FERGUSON has signed a two-year deal with Birmingham City after completing his £1.25m move from Rangers.

The former skipper has been reunited with Alex McLeish, who sold him to Blackburn Rovers in 2003 and then brought him back to Ibrox 18 months later and, of course,worked with him with him with the Scottish national team.

Now the ex-Gers boss hopes that Ferguson can have a major impact after winning promotion back to the Premier League last season.

He said: "Barry has played at a very high level for Rangers, in big games.

"Maybe the Scottish league is not the strongest, certainly not anywhere near the Premier League, but he's played a good level of games, in the Champions League, the Celtic fixture and cup finals.

"I think he has got unfinished business in England. He started with a bad injury at Blackburn, then fought his way back to fitness, and the reports I got at that time, before he came back to Rangers, was that he was playing extremely well.

"But maybe he didn't stay long enough for people to make a full assessment of him. So I think in that respect Barry will want to come down with something to prove.

"They've barely started pre-season training at Rangers but again, from the reports I've had, he's been up there in the fitness testing they've done. He's always been a pretty fit guy.

"The big thing for me is that I need people who are not afraid to take the ball. He's gone to places like Italy, France, against two of the top nations in football, and has not been fazed.

''If you don't have players who can take, keep and pass the ball well, then you're in trouble against the likes of that kind of world class opposition. Barry can go a long way to help the team-building I am currently undertaking."
